It's a new day and our children are subject to the effects of a
world built around commerce, not family. Areas you need to be concerned about are your
child's diet, education, future goals, supervision, value system and time with you. Let's
be concrete when we talk about what we want for our children. Like money in the bank, it
doesn't exist unless you stop and put it there. When others teach your children, they teach them their ideas and values. We can no longer assume that people use conscience in their contact with our children. As our children are exposed to the self-destructive messages of music and television, many of us stand by and throw up our hands. We could simply use them to turn these information sources off. Likewise with the other areas of their lives. What you think doesn't matter as much as what you do. What you say to your child does matter and there is magic in your praise of their strengths. It is a free and easy way to make them emotionally rich and strong. What you show by example and by your patience will stay in their minds indefinitely. Oh, the stress of being a parent, and the power and the joy........! |
